- News article summary and sharing: Sara will email you with a selection of news stories that are appropriate for your level. Choose one and prepare some notes (main ideas and key details ONLY, not full sentences) to use when you talk about the story. You can't show your classmates the original article. Please come ready to talk about your article on Monday, but do NOT write out and memorize what you want to say.
- Review the figures of speech that we discussed on class on Wednesday. See the 'answer key' section of the blog.

- Think about whether you want to go vote in the elections as a class on Wednesday, or have another field trip. We will discuss and decide in class together.

- news article summary and sharing: choose an article that is not too difficult for you. Use the instructions that I gave you on Wednesday to guide you. On Monday, you will not be able to show your article, because I don't want everyone to just read the article. Instead, prepare some notes (main ideas and key details) to use when you tell your group about the news story. You can show any photos and headlines that come with the article, but that's it. Please come ready to talk about your article on Monday.

- Read the 'informal email - polite request' and answer all of the questions. Complete question #10, which is writing an informal email of request. Bring your first draft to class.

- Eavesdrop and observe people in conversation. Pay attention to their body language, use of rejoinders & follow up questions.

- Bring your news or magazine article to class, since we didn't get to discuss & share our articles on Monday.

- Complete your second draft of your letter to Minister Virk, if I gave your first draft back to you on Monday.
- Finish the exercises on reported speech and check your answers here.

- finish your ideas brainstorm about the funding cuts to adult ESL in B.C. Here are some guiding questions for you to think about:
- Why is adult ESL important for you? (for immigrants/newcomers? for B.C.?)
- How do these cuts affect you?
- Why should the BC Liberal government continue to put funding into adult ESL at VCC?
- How has studying ESL at VCC helped you? Tell your story.
